It seems that the acquisition of Android has played a role in Google’s recent move into the cellular phone industry. Through their purchase of this company Google has been able to develop some Operating Software (OS) that can go on any phone.
The article states "A fresh approach to fostering innovation in the mobile industry will help shape a new computing environment that will change the way people access and share information in the future," Schmidt said. "Today's announcement is more ambitious than any single 'Google Phone.' ... Our vision is that the powerful platform we're unveiling will power thousands of different phone models."
So it seems that Google wants to diversify and further expand itself. With Google’s popularity I think Google’s OS will go far. I am not as confident that a Gphone will be lucrative for the giant company.
Cheers!
