Sony BMG and Yahoo Team Up

Sony BMG, Yahoo ink online video deal

Sony BMG Music Entertainment has struck a deal with Yahoo Inc. that would allow Yahoo under license to allow people to upload music or video from Sony BMG music artists. The growth of user generated videos that contains copyrighted material has grown tremendously over the last few years. Sony BMG did a similar deal with Google and the interesting part about this is how some companies are embracing these new forms of media distribution. I know that many studios and networks are hesitant about allowing their media such as videos of TV shows to be distributed online due to the loss of revenues from ads they may sustain. I read this in a Business Week article "I Want My iTV" in which it describes how these studios and networks are worried that allowing such online distribution can backfire on them and put them in the same position that the music industry is in - in which they are losing money. It will be interesting to see how many companies start inking similar deals to make their content available online to be used by people or as a means of creating another medium to distribute their content.
