The Internet opened up a medium for people to communicate in various ways and since then it has been flooded with massive content. This amount of content created and used online by consumers has accelerated the overload of the Internet. According to a new study, the Internet has about two years before its current capacity is overloaded - creating brown-outs. Backbone providers must invest "$137 billion in new capacity, more than double what service providers plan to invest." North America must spend $42 billion to $55 billion within the next three to five years in order to keep up. We talked in class about the fact that the current Internet is currently littered with band-aids in order to keep it stable but that the time was coming for it to be replaced. The question still is how the Internet will be fixed because it seems that all this money that needs to be spent in order to keep the Internet stable is just for more band-aids on the problem.
