Google has been showing interest in the mobile phone market for some time and while there are no confirmed plans about Google coming out with their own phone, Google is looking to unveil "Android." It is Google's new open source phone software that will use software from Linux. The idea for Google is to push passed its rivals in developing mobile phones that operate like a mobile computer as mobile technology gets more sophisticated. When the time comes that mobile phones become more like mini PC's, "they'll need search, and they'll need applications tailored to mobile phones. Those are things Google figured out how to do a long time ago." According to the article, it appears that the idea of incorporating Linux over the years has been a tough sell but it will be interesting to see what Google comes up with and whether or not people will start using such software on their phones. According to the article at cnet.com, Google will have a press conference on the project on Monday November 5th.
