Starting in 2009, OnStar is adding a new feature to GM's lineup: disabling their vehicles when it gets stolen. I find it to be a cool feature because it should reduce insurance rates (such as alarms and anti-theft devices), and the company OnStar overall is a great security feature when the vehicle breaks down or you need directions.
However, how reliable is OnStar when it comes to disabling their vehicles? I'd find it hilarious if a parent doesn't want their newly-licensed kid to drive and they teach them a lesson by disabling the vehicle. Or if a jealous and overprotective spouse doesn't want their loved-one to go out by disobeying them. How will OnStar know what is a serious issue or not???
I do believe it is a threat to motorists because it may cause accidents. What if the carjacker doesn't pull over to the side?
I'm just thankful I'm driving an import!
