Network Applications and E-Learning (After Class Reading)

Web Services is the fourth major category of network applications. They are applications used through computers or any other device like a cell phone that allow users to communicate with one another over the Internet. Web Services are a useful tool and can be used in a variety of ways, from automating business processes to streamlining online buying and selling. For a business, like Citigroup that needed to give its employees access to real time information globally, Web Services became an intricate part of their business so that employees can make faster and better decisions. They were able to give their employees access to real time information and make it more feasible for them to interact when they can’t interact face to face. They did so by using Microsoft’s .NET Web Services technology by building a corporate portal for them. Web Services are a key to creating a more feasible network for people in business to interact when they otherwise can’t.
